Telecom Systems
in Ireland
The
telephone system in the Republic is run exclusively by Telecom Eireann
(TE) and provides a modern and efficient service. Today, TE has a network
of up-to-date coin and card phones. It is cheaper and more economical
to use phonecards as there are more card phones than coin phones. The
phonecards are available from newsagents, post offices, supermarkets and
other retail outlets. Cheap rate calls to the UK are from 6pm to 8am weekdays
and all day at weekends and for international calls they vary from country
to country, but are generally as above.
Following are a few
important numbers :
Directory enquiries : dial 1190 for numbers in Ireland
Sending a telemessage : dial 196
For emergencies (Police, Fire, Ambulance, etc.) : dial 999
