Tourist
Attractions
Ireland
has a history which goes back to thousands and thousands of years. Thus,
there are many old monuments and tourist attractions. The following are
just a few of them-
National
Gallery Of Ireland : This purpose-built gallery was opened to the
public in 1864. It houses many excellent exhibits, largely due to generous
bequests, such as the Milltown collection of works of art from Russborough
House. More then 600 works are on display in the gallery and although
there is much emphasis on Irish landscape art and portraits, every major
school of European paintings is well represented.
Merrion Square West, Dublin City
National
Library : The National Library was opened in 1890. On display in the
entrance hall are temporary exhibitions of treasures from the library
archive. This includes manuscripts by playwright George Bernard Shaw and
politician Daniel O' Connell. The magnificent dome shaped Reading Room
on the first floor has well-worn desks and green shaded lamps.
