GUINNESS Hop
Store
The
World Of Guinness exhibition is housed in a 19th century warehouse located
in Crane Street in Dublin city. It was used for storing bales of hops
until the 1950's. A self-guided tour takes the visitor through displays
which chronicle 200 years of brewing at St James's Gate. The tour starts
in a Victorian kieve (or mash tun), and goes on to examine all the other
stages of the brewing process.
Displays
show how the production has changed over the years from when Arthur Guinness
took over the backstreet brewery in 1759, to today's state-of-the-art
techniques. The other displays include craftsmen's skills involved in
making the wooden barrels used for storage, the company's fleet of barges,
ocean tankers and the once familiar dray horses which transported the
stout to the ports. The tour ends with an audio-visual showing the company's
development, followed by the visit to the sampling bar where you can enjoy
a couple of glasses of draught Guinness!!!
